NADIA(1984)VHS
The first gymnast to ever score a perfect 10 at the Olympics was Nadia
Comaneci. From a small town in Romania, Nadia (Leslie Weiner, in her only
feature film role) rose to international stardom. Under the coaching
guidance of Bela Karoli, she pushed herself with the will of a champion.
This movie does a wonderful job of showing how hard gymnasts must work as
well as showing how much they must give up in their personal lives in
order to achieve success. After winning three gold medals at the 1976
Olympics, her life spins out of control when Bela is removed as her coach.
For the first time in her life she is on her own, she is the object of
jealousy from her teammates, and her weight is out of control. She seeks
out her former coach and asks for his help. Together they put Nadia back
on the winning track. A family film with a lot to offer, Nadia shows in a
credible way the highs and lows of celebrity. The gymnastics portions are
terrific. A must if there's a budding gymnast or gymnastic enthusiast in
your home.

The
Gymnastic Excellence Series: --VHS --
This
video does an excellent job demonstrating helpful exercises that will
build muscle and increase flexibility. The importance of a strong and
limber body are emphasized as that is a key factor in being a good
tumbler. Technical aspects are clearly broken down to ensure that the
viewer learns and masters the skills. As the coach of a competitive
gymnastics team, I find this video a fantastic way to teach my
beginning gymnasts. It can also be easily used at home. Anyone
interested in learning gymnastics should consider purchasing this
video!

Golden Moments -- VHS --
This video features many older gymnasts such as Cathy Rigby, Kurt Thomas,
Bart Conner, Mary Lou Retton, and Tim Daggett. It also shows routines from
the early ages of Kim Zmeskal, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, and
more. This may not appeal to younger gymnasts who are not familiar to
older gymnasts, but they may enjoy seeing performances from them and
learning about them too. These performances are basically 10.0
performances, which is why they made the golden moments. If you enjoy
seeing old routines and gymnasts then this is the movie for you.

Fun with Bela Karolyi
(1988)
- VHS - There are many very young (soon to be stars) students
of Bela in this video to showcase skills. A few names are: Erica Stokes,
Kim Zmeskal, and Hillary Grivich. At the time of this video these gymnasts
were only 8-10 yrs. old. The video was filmed during one of Bela Karolyi's
summer training camps in Texas, and takes you through proper warm ups,
floor exercise, beam, vault, bars, and conditioning. The video shows
skills for beginners, intermediate, and advanced. At the end of every
event, one of the elite gymnasts does a competitive Olympic style
exercise. Great insight.

Rock 'N Roll Gymnastics-- VHS --This movie definitely should be a high
priority to watch on a gymnastics fans' list. In rock and roll
gymnastics, female and male gymnasts get to compete for the rock
n' roll guitar. The gymnasts only compete the floor exercise, and
the rules are limited. If you saw the Olympics or any gymnastics
competition on TV, and enjoyed the floor exercise, then this is
the movie for you. The competitors have few rules to follow,
making this a dazzling, fun filled movie. Gymnasts can walk of the
floor and use props in their routines such as dolls or crash gear.
To top it off, the panel of judges is celebrities who just base
the scores on how well they like the performance and how well they
think it was performed! This is the best movie, and it features
spectacular tumbling as well as great dance!
